I’m finally settled into my new home here in Oregon. I went for a hike yesterday, to do some exploring, and to get myself into shape for this upcoming trip. The first place that came to mind was one of the table rock’s. There are two volcanic plateau’s in southern Oregon called Upper and Lower Table Rock. I ended up going to Upper Table Rock because its the easier of the two hikes.
There wasn’t really anything spectacular along the trail, heading up. There were a few openings where you could overlook the Rogue Valley. The view wasn’t great yesterday, thanks to the fires to the north and south. At least I know where to come shoot when there are more favorable conditions.
Once I made it to the top of Upper Table Rock, the landscape completely changed. I kind of felt like I was on another planet. There are volcanic rocks everywhere, and not many trees. There was this one dead tree, on the other side of the plateau, that caught my eye. So I hiked over to check it out and get a few shots.
For the first image, I liked the black and white edit I did in Snapseed. The contrast between the volcanic rocks and the dead grass made that an easy choice.
And here’s one of me overlooking the valley. No, the lighting conditions, weren’t great, and I’d rather have a better sky, but I’ll take what I can get for now.
