My friend Iris was a big fan of How I Met Your Mother, and thought it would be fun to have her friend take photos of her with a yellow umbrella. They came out ok, but she asked me if there was anything I could do with them. I ended up just playing with the photo, instead of focusing on a HIMYM theme.
First, I cut her out of her photo, using Superimpose. Then, I created the background with Frax. I took Frax into iColorama and made it more painterly, by using some of the brushes in Artist and Edged. Next, I added Iris on top of the background in iColorama. Then, I played around with some subtle painterly effect to make her blend in better. Finally, I added a tiltshift effect in Snapseed, and a shadow in PS Touch.
This is what I created in Frax to use as the background.
