I may have finally figured this social media thing out. Yesterday’s photo got well over 17,000 views (and counting) without even making it to the front page of 500px. Easily, my highest rated and most viewed image yet.
This photo was created in Woodside, CA. There is an old historic general store with a blacksmith next to it. The inside of the black smith is set up to show you what it might have looked like at one point.
Today’s image was influenced by viewing a bunch of other iPhoneographrer’s photos. I see so many talented people on flickr using multiple apps to create amazing images. I have to admit to being lazy when it comes to my edits on the iPhone. I can spend an hour on an image in photoshop, at times, but I would never spend that much time on the iPhone. I’m always trying to finish the edit in less than 5 minutes.
For this image, I took my time and used multiple apps to create the look I wanted. First, I used VividHDR with an iPro super wide angle lens to get the shot. Then, LensLight to add some sun rays coming in from the window. Then, I used TangledFX set to brush strokes, for the painted look. It was way too stylized for me, so I used imageblender to mix the TangledFX version with the LensLight version. I decided to set the blend mode to soft light and use an opacity around 50% to make the brushstrokes much more subtle and to add some contrast. I think the final step was using Perfectly Clear to make it pop.
