I went to Big Basin Redwoods State Park, yesterday. The trees are so huge that they really need something next to them for scale. I set my iPhone up on my tripod and jumped in the scene to do some modeling :P. I’m 6 feet tall, but look like an elf, next to the giants.
This particular tree had a lot of character. You can tell it had been through a lot in its lifetime. When I walked inside, I could see hundreds of feet through the hollow trunk to the sky. Somehow, it was still alive and growing, despite all of the wounds. It’s pretty amazing, the lessons you can learn from observing nature. Even if you’re missing pieces, have been burned, or broken, you can still thrive. It was a welcome reminder, after the challenging 2 months I’ve had.
